Our group is still new and growing. We meet twice a month on the 1st and the 3rd Thursday in different places to share some interesting insights and knowledge about the culture from each other’s countries. All ladies are welcome to join us, not only Asian. Herewith we’d like to show you some of the cultural activities that we have done in the past months.
For the first activity, Sansanee Wozniak - our group leader from Thai, invited us to try delicious Thai breakfast of 'the rice soup with shrimps' at Suparom Thai restaurant.
On this day, we also had an opportunity to try traditional Thai massage. The masseuse showed us the easy way to do hand massage a la Thai. We also enjoyed a relaxing shoulder massage. Suparom's Thai massage is located on the second floor, on top of the restaurant.
This time, we visited Korean Cultural Center. Here Joo Young from Korea introduced us to the Korean alphabet called “Hangul” and taught us how to spell and write our names in Hangul by using special brush and ink just like in the old times. There is of course a special technique to move the brush so that the writings will look good.
Our other members from Korea, Myoung Park and Yang Jin, also gave help in this short Korean calligraphy course.
Turkish Salad and Indonesian Batik
Elice Vienna, our member from Indonesia, taught us three simple ways to wear traditional Batik cloth. After her presentation, we all got the chance to exercise these surprisingly easy techniques.
In this occasion, Gulce Isoglu from Turkey also showed us how to make a simple Turkish Salad and we also try Borek, a delicious Turkish pastry.
What a day! We got 2 wonderful cultural insights from our own members! Thank you, Ladies!
Everybody knows what origami is, but not everyone knows how to make it. In this session, Chiyo Niki from Japan taught us these simple origami. Any kind of paper is suitable for making origami, but this time we used origami paper from Japan. We learned to make bird, frog and crown origami.
The origami lesson took place in a restaurant in Galeria Mokotow. It was a relax and fun gathering for all of us. Everybody went home bringing 3-4 pieces of their own origami.
